DomovoiTray 1.0.0 manual
DomovoiTray turns measured game components and a box into a foamcore or chipboard insert build pack: sized wells and trays, a height check under the lid, rectangular parts nested on your own sheets with a numbered straight-cut sequence, actual-size glue guides and an assembly sheet.
Tested on Ubuntu 22.04 (Linux) with Google Chrome 152 only. Physical cutting, real board thickness, glue-up fit and printer scale are not verified by the app. Measure, print the 50 mm test square and dry-fit components before gluing.
1. What you need
- A desktop browser. Version 1.0.0 was tested in Google Chrome 152 on Linux; other browsers and systems are untested.
- Calipers or a ruler for measuring cards, tokens and your board. Nominal “5 mm” foamcore often measures 4.8–5.2 mm.
- No installation, account, server or internet connection. Extract the ZIP anywhere you like.
2. First result in two minutes
- Extract
DomovoiTray-1.0.0.zipand openDomovoiTray-1.0.0/DomovoiTray.htmlby double-clicking it or dragging it into Chrome. - Click Load example. The fictional Lantern Ferry project loads: box 290 × 290 × 70 mm, 5 mm board, 0.5 mm kerf, 500 × 700 mm sheets with a 5 mm margin, two sleeved decks and a token pile.

- Open 2 Trays. One tray holds three wells in a row. It measures 216 × 103 × 51 mm, and the height bar reads 57.00 of 70.00 mm used — 13.00 mm spare (tray 51 + game board 4 + rulebook 2 + top clearance 0).

- Open 3 Sheets & export. Expected result: 1 sheet · 7 parts · 16.92 % part area of sheet area · 13 straight cuts. Part area excludes kerf and waste.
- Click Export build pack (.zip). Chrome saves
domovoitray-lantern-ferry-build-pack-a4.zipto your downloads folder.

3. Your own components
- Click New, then enter the box’s inner width, depth and height. Type millimetres, or inches with a suffix such as
11.5in(converted at exactly 25.4 mm and rounded half-up to 0.01 mm). - Enter the measured board thickness, the kerf (your blade’s cut width), the sheet size and an edge margin that you do not want to use.
- Card deck: card or sleeve width and height, number of cards and thickness per card (about 0.40 mm single-sleeved is a common starting point — measure a stack of your own cards). The well is the card size plus the clearance on each side; fill height is cards × thickness.
- Pile / tokens: footprint and fill height; clearance is added around the footprint. Fixed well: the exact inner size you type, no clearance added.
- Lid items are flat things that lie above the trays, such as the board and rulebook.
- To import many components, use Import components CSV… with the header
kind,name,w_mm,h_mm,count,caliper_mm,depth_mm. Example:samples/components.csv. Imported components are added to the list.
4. Trays and the height check
- Click + Tray, choose a component from the list and click Add well. Wells sit in one row from left to right; use ← and → to reorder. Each component can fill one well.
- Tray length = all well widths + a divider between neighbours + two end walls. Tray depth = the deepest well + two long walls. Tray height = base + tallest fill + headroom.
- Set the tray position from the box’s front-left inner corner. Tick Turn 90° to rotate it. Trays stand on the box floor; they may touch but not overlap. There is no stacking of trays.
- The height check adds the tallest tray, all lid items and the top clearance. Exactly equal to the box height passes; 0.01 mm more fails.
5. Sheets, cuts and export
Parts are placed in shelves on each sheet, inset by the margin and separated by exactly the kerf. With Allow turning parts 90° on, each part lies long side horizontal unless only the turned orientation fits. The cutting sequence trims the top and left margins, cuts strips from top to bottom, then cuts across each strip from left to right and finally trims shorter parts to height. Every cut runs straight through the whole piece it names and never crosses a finished part. Coordinates are millimetres from the sheet’s top-left corner.
| File in the build pack | Use |
|---|---|
| report.txt | inputs, calculated sizes, checks, part list and cutting sequence |
| cut-diagram.pdf | scaled overview of each sheet with numbered cuts, then the sequence (do not measure from it) |
| sheet-N.svg | 1:1 sheet layout in millimetres (width/height in mm with a matching viewBox), one rectangle per part named by its ID |
| templates-1to1.pdf | page 1: 50 mm test square and 100 mm ruler; then actual-size base glue guides, tiled with a 10 mm page margin and 10 mm overlap, each page with a tile key and a 50 mm check bar |
| assembly.pdf | box plan, height stack, glue order, dimension check and wells for each tray |
| cut-list.csv / cut-list-spreadsheet-safe.csv | parts with sizes and sheet positions; the safe copy prefixes an apostrophe to text starting with = + - @ so spreadsheets do not run it as a formula |
| cut-sequence.csv, templates-tiles.json | machine-readable cuts and tile positions |
| project.json | reopen with Open project… |
Printing guides: print templates-1to1.pdf at 100 % / “Actual size”, never “Fit to page”. Measure the 50 mm square; if it is not 50 mm, fix the print scale before using any guide. Join tiles in order (row 1 first, left to right) so the dashed overlap lines meet.
Saving: click Save project to download <name>.domovoitray.json. The header shows Unsaved changes until you save. Nothing is saved automatically.
6. When the build pack is blocked
Click Tall example: the Ferry deck now has 150 cards (60.00 mm), the tray becomes 67 mm tall and the stack is 73.00 mm — over the 70.00 mm box height by 3.00 mm. Any failed check blocks the build pack and cutting templates, and the sheet layout and cutting sequence stay hidden until every check passes, so you never cut parts for an insert that does not fit. You can still save the project and download a report labelled DIAGNOSTIC REPORT — NOT A BUILD PACK. Click a problem in the red list to jump to the field.

Other blocking problems: an empty tray, a component used twice, a tray outside the box or overlapping another (with the overlap size), an out-of-range value, a part larger than the usable sheet (named by ID) or more than 20 sheets.
7. Formats and limits
- Up to 12 trays, 8 wells per tray, 40 wells and 40 components in total (so at most 88 parts), 10 lid items and 20 sheets.
- Box 20–1000 mm per side; board 0.5–12 mm; kerf 0–3 mm; sheet 50–1200 mm per side; margin 0–20 mm; clearance 0–10 mm; headroom and top clearance 0–50 mm.
- Project JSON (format
domovoitray-project, version 1) up to 1,048,576 bytes (1 MiB). Component CSV (UTF-8, comma-separated, quoted fields allowed) up to 524,288 bytes (512 KiB) and 40 rows. A refused file changes nothing. - Rectangular parts only: no curves, slots, half-laps, lids, 3D printing or multi-row trays. Wells in one tray share the tray’s full inner depth.
- PDF text uses the standard Helvetica font: characters outside Western European Latin print as “?”. Names are kept exactly in the project file and CSV.

8. Troubleshooting
- A field is red
- The problem list names the field and the allowed range. Values need digits, optionally with
infor inches. - Export button is disabled
- Fix every listed problem; the report-only download stays available.
- The 50 mm square prints at a different size
- Set the print scale to 100 % / Actual size and disable “Fit to page”, then reprint. Do not cut from mis-scaled guides.
- A part “does not fit the usable sheet area”
- Use larger sheets, a smaller margin, allow turning parts, or split the tray into two trays.
- The project or CSV will not open
- The status line explains why (size, header, line number). Your current work is unchanged.
- Downloads do not appear
- Check the browser’s download folder and permission prompt for multiple downloads.
9. Privacy, files and uninstall
DomovoiTray runs entirely in the browser tab from the extracted files. It makes no network requests, has no account and sends no telemetry; a content security policy in the page forbids network connections. Your files are read only when you choose them and are never modified — exports are new downloads. To uninstall, delete the extracted folder and any downloaded files you no longer want.
