DraupnirFlow 1.0.1 · Manual

Check file names and build size-limited ZIP downloads

For digital-product sellers: check a product folder or an old ZIP, fix names that break buyers’ downloads, and build complete ZIP files that fit your shop’s limits — offline, in desktop Chrome.

Every picture in this manual is a screenshot of DraupnirFlow 1.0.1 in Google Chrome 152 on Linux, using fictional example files.

1At a glance

  • You chooseA product folder, a few files, or a ZIP you already made.
  • DraupnirFlow checksFile names Windows refuses, Mac and Windows system files, case clashes, long paths and old ZIP problems — and fixes the names it can.
  • You getOne or more complete ZIP files that each fit your limit, plus a text or JSON report of every change.

The built-in Etsy digital listing preset follows Etsy’s published limits: at most 5 files of 20 MB each, and upload file names of at most 70 letters, digits, periods, underscores or hyphens. DraupnirFlow treats 20 MB as 20,000,000 bytes, the stricter reading. For other shops, enter your own limits.

DraupnirFlow prepares files on your computer. It does not upload anything to Etsy or any other shop, and it cannot guarantee that a marketplace accepts a file or that every unzip app opens it. Open your new ZIP files yourself before you publish them.

Tested: desktop Google Chrome 152 on Linux. Not tested: Windows, macOS, phones and other browsers, and real uploads to Etsy.

2Install and open

  1. Extract the whole download. Unzip DraupnirFlow-1.0.1.zip into a folder you keep, for example Documents/DraupnirFlow. Do not open files from inside the ZIP.
  2. Keep the folders together. DraupnirFlow.html loads its code from the app folder next to it. Moving the HTML file on its own stops the buttons from working.
  3. Open DraupnirFlow.html in Google Chrome — drag it onto a Chrome window, or right-click it and choose Open with → Google Chrome. No installation, account or internet connection is needed.
DraupnirFlow start page: step 1 'Choose what buyers will download' with three buttons, a hint pointing to the practice folder, and step 2 Settings with product name, shop limits and file options.
What you should see. Step 1 offers Choose product folder…, Choose files… and Check an existing ZIP…. Step 2 holds the settings; the defaults suit an Etsy listing.

3Make your first ZIP with the included example

You will create Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip from the fictional practice folder that comes with DraupnirFlow. It takes six steps.

  1. Choose the practice folder. Click Choose product folder… and select examples/Cozy Planner Bundle. If Chrome asks whether to “upload” the files, it is asking to let this local page read them; nothing is sent anywhere.
  2. Leave the settings as they are. Shop limits stays on Etsy digital listing. After you choose the folder, the settings fold into one line — “Cozy Planner Bundle” · Etsy digital listing: up to 5 ZIP files of 20.00 MB · unzip guide added — and the page moves to the review. Click Change to open them again.
  3. Read the review. The amber banner says what happens next.

Ready to build 1 ZIP file — check 4 warnings first. 12 of 15 files included · 3 left out · 4 fixed automatically · 1.79 MB in 1 of at most 5 ZIP files. The ZIP plan shows Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip with 13 files at 8.9% of the limit.

The four warnings are deliberate in this practice folder: an empty file, a ZIP inside the folder and two non-English file names. With your own product, decide about each warning before you build.
  4. Build. Click Build ZIP files.
  5. Save the ZIP and the report. Click Download next to Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip, then Download report (.txt). Chrome saves both in its usual download folder.

The row turns green and says Download started. The ZIP is 1,788,188 bytes and holds 13 files.

  6. Open the saved ZIP. Extract it: you get the 12 product files and How to open these files.txt. That completes the practice run. For your own product, choose its folder and review the findings again.
Review for the Cozy Planner Bundle: amber banner 'Ready to build 1 ZIP file — check 4 warnings first', 12 of 15 files included, 3 left out; ZIP plan with Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip, 13 files, 1.79 MB, 8.9% of the limit; findings list with 4 warnings, 4 fixed items and an Etsy file-name note.
Step 3 — the review for the practice folder. Warnings first, then automatic fixes: three system files are left out and one Mac-style accented name is normalised. The note explains why the ZIP name uses hyphens.
Build and download: 'Built 1 ZIP file', Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip, 1.79 MB (1,788,188 bytes), 13 files, SHA-256 shown, with 'Download started' and a Download again button.
Step 5 — after downloading. Each ZIP shows its exact size, file count and the start of its SHA-256 checksum.

The complete worked example

All 15 files in examples/Cozy Planner Bundle and what DraupnirFlow does with each one:

File in the practice folderResultWhy
Read me first.pdf, License - personal use.txtIncludedNothing to change.
Planner/A4/Cozy Planner 2027 - A4.pdf, Planner/US Letter/Cozy Planner 2027 - US Letter.pdfIncludedNothing to change.
Stickers/Sticker sheet 01.png … 04.png (4 files)IncludedNothing to change.
Planner/Undated pages/placeholder.txtWarning includedEmpty file (0 bytes) — often a failed export.
Bonus/Bonus wallpapers.zipWarning includedA ZIP inside the ZIP: phones often cannot open it, and DraupnirFlow does not check the names inside it.
Bonus/Café menu template.pdfFixed Warning includedMac-style decomposed accent converted to the standard form; non-English name stored with the ZIP UTF-8 flag.
Bonus/日本語ガイド.pdfWarning includedNon-English name, stored with the ZIP UTF-8 flag.
.DS_StoreLeft outmacOS system file.
Planner/~$Planner notes.docxLeft outMicrosoft Office temporary owner file.
Stickers/Thumbs.dbLeft outWindows system file.

Output: Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip — 12 product files plus How to open these files.txt, 1,788,188 bytes, 8.9% of the 20,000,000-byte limit. The name follows Etsy’s file-name rule, so “Cozy Planner Bundle” becomes Cozy-Planner-Bundle.zip.

4Read the review

  • The banner is green when the ZIP files are ready, amber when there are warnings to check and red when something blocks the build. Below the title it counts the files found, included and left out, the automatic fixes, and the total size.
  • ZIP plan lists each ZIP that will be built, its exact size and how full it is. The names you see here are exactly the names you will download.
  • Findings explain every problem. Blocking stops the build, Warning is for you to judge, Fixed was handled automatically. The filter buttons show one group at a time.
  • Renamed files (fold-out under the findings) puts each original name next to its new name in the ZIP.
Renamed files table with 7 rows: Planner/CON.pdf to Planner/CON_.pdf, Planner/Notes: 2027.txt to Planner/Notes - 2027.txt, Planner/Read me. to Planner/Read me, Planner/Readme.txt to Planner/Readme (2).txt, Planner/Weekly | Monthly planner.pdf to Planner/Weekly - Monthly planner.pdf, bonus/Wallpapers.zip to Bonus/Wallpapers.zip, and a Café name normalised.
Renamed files in the larger practice folder (section 5). CON is a Windows device name and gets _; colons and the | character become hyphens; a trailing period is removed; Readme.txt clashes with README.txt on Windows and Mac, so it becomes Readme (2).txt; the bonus and Bonus folders are merged. A normalised accent looks the same before and after, but the stored characters differ.

5Large products and Etsy’s 5 × 20 MB limit

When a product is bigger than one ZIP may be, DraupnirFlow spreads it over several complete ZIP files. Each part opens on its own — there are no .z01 split volumes — and every file is compressed before planning, so the exact size of each ZIP is known in advance and none exceeds the limit. Top-level folders stay together when they fit. With the Etsy preset the parts are named Product-Name-Part-1-of-3.zip and so on; the stem is shortened when needed so the longest name stays within 70 characters.

The pictures in this section use a larger synthetic practice folder, “Spring Printables Shop Bundle” (44 files, 45.21 MB), made with examples/make_examples.py --messy DIR --big --benign. Your own numbers will differ.

After choosing the Spring Printables Shop Bundle folder: the setup is folded into one line, the amber banner reads 'Ready to build 3 ZIP files — check 4 warnings first', 41 of 44 files included, and the ZIP plan lists Spring-Printables-Shop-Bundle-Part-1-of-3.zip (25 files, 19.69 MB, 98.5%), Part-2-of-3 (14 files, 19.51 MB, 97.6%) and Part-3-of-3 (5 files, 6.00 MB, 30.0%).
Three independent ZIP files, each below the selected 20 MB limit. The setup steps are folded into one line, so the review starts near the top of the window.
Three built ZIP files: Part 1 19,693,584 bytes with 25 files, Part 2 19,512,771 bytes with 14 files, Part 3 6,004,491 bytes with 5 files, each marked 'Download started', and a 'Download all 3' button.
Built and downloaded. Each part is below 20,000,000 bytes. Download all saves them one after another; Chrome may ask once for permission to download several files. When there is more than one part, How to open these files.txt in each ZIP lists all of them.

On Etsy, upload each ZIP as a separate digital file in your listing.

6Downloads and the report

Download report (.txt) and (.json) save a record of the settings, every finding, every rename and each ZIP’s size and SHA-256 checksum. Use the JSON file if you want to process the record with another tool. The start of the report for the practice folder:

DraupnirFlow 1.0.1 report — 2026-10-01T08:19:23.581Z

Your date and checksum will differ: the unzip guide inside each ZIP carries the time you built it.

Reports list your file names. If the names contain client or personal information, review a report before you share it.

7When building is blocked

While any finding is Blocking, the banner is red and Build ZIP files stays disabled. Each case below gives the cause, what to do, and how you know it worked.

  • Too many ZIP files — the product needs more ZIP files than your limit allows. Remove or shrink files, or split the product into separate listings. Do not raise the Etsy numbers to get around it: Etsy’s own limit still applies.
  • File too large for one ZIP — one file is bigger than the limit even after compression. Export a smaller version, or deliver that file another way.
  • Damaged entry, Password-protected entry or Unsupported compression in an existing ZIP — rebuild from your original files instead.

After you change files on disk, choose the folder again so DraupnirFlow reads the new versions. It worked when the banner turns amber or green and the Build button is enabled.

Red banner 'Not ready: 1 blocking problem to resolve' with custom limits of 2 ZIP files of 5 MB; the plan lists 10 parts, parts 3 to 10 marked in red 'More than the 2 ZIP files allowed'; the blocking finding says 10 ZIP files are needed and about 35.22 MB must be removed.
Custom limits of 5 MB × 2 files cannot hold the 45 MB practice folder. Parts beyond the allowed count are marked in red, and the finding says how many ZIP files are needed and roughly how much to remove.

8Check and repair a ZIP you already made

  1. Click Check an existing ZIP… and pick the ZIP. To follow along, pick examples/old-shop-download.zip.
  2. Read the findings. Names stored without UTF-8 flag means some unzip tools may show garbled names such as R├⌐sum├⌐ instead of Résumé.
  3. Click Build ZIP files to make a clean copy: names are fixed and stored with the UTF-8 flag, and system files are left out. Your original ZIP is not changed.
Review of old-shop-download.zip: 9 of 11 files included, 2 left out, 10 fixed automatically; findings for names stored without the UTF-8 flag, __MACOSX and .DS_Store left out, Aux.pdf reserved name, Cover.png and Cover.PNG clash, colon, quote and pipe characters replaced; renamed files table.
The practice ZIP. Missing UTF-8 flags, Mac system files, characters and a device name (Aux) that Windows refuses, and a Cover.png/Cover.PNG clash. The renamed-files table shows the new names.

Names that still look wrong

Old ZIPs without the UTF-8 flag do not say which character set they use. DraupnirFlow reads such a name as UTF-8 when the bytes are valid UTF-8. Otherwise it guesses the old DOS character set (code page 437) and shows a Warning, because the guess can be wrong. If names look garbled, choose another Name encoding for old ZIPs without the UTF-8 flag — it appears in step 1 when you check a ZIP — for example Shift_JIS for ZIPs made on Japanese Windows. DraupnirFlow then reads the ZIP again.

Entries that are never repacked

Entries with absolute paths or .. (they could write outside the buyer’s folder) and Unix symbolic links are left out with a warning. Password-protected, damaged and unsupported entries block the build. Either way they count as left out, and the banner says how many entries from the original ZIP cannot be repacked — the new ZIP never looks complete when it is not.

9Exact limits and supported formats

InputOne folder, a set of files, or one existing .zip. Up to 1,500,000,000 bytes (1.5 GB) per job; an existing ZIP must also expand to no more than 1.5 GB.
MemoryEverything is processed in the browser tab’s memory: your files, their compressed copies and the finished ZIP files at the same time. A large job can therefore need several times its size in free memory, and a computer with little free memory may stop earlier. The largest job tested for this release is the 45 MB practice folder.
Existing ZIPsCompression methods Stored (0) and Deflate (8). Refused: password protection, other methods (for example LZMA, BZIP2, Deflate64), ZIP64 archives, split or multi-volume archives, and files that are not ZIPs or are damaged. The end record must close the file and the directory must hold exactly the entries it declares; otherwise the whole ZIP is refused rather than partly read. Every entry’s CRC-32 is checked.
Old ZIP namesRead with the UTF-8 flag (bit 11) or the Info-ZIP Unicode Path field when present. Otherwise: UTF-8 if valid, else DOS 437 (as a warning); or the encoding you choose — DOS 437, Shift_JIS, GBK, Big5, EUC-KR, Windows-1251, CP866 or Windows-1252.
Output ZIPsEach file Stored or Deflated, whichever is smaller; UTF-8 flag on non-English names only; no ZIP64 (each ZIP under 4 GB and at most 65,534 files including the unzip guide — more files are spread over more ZIP files); no passwords, split volumes or folder entries; file dates kept (1980–2107).
Size limitsEtsy digital listing: 5 ZIP files of 20,000,000 bytes each. Custom limits: 0.05–4,000 MB per ZIP (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes) and 1–999 ZIP files.
ZIP file namesEtsy: only A–Z a–z 0–9 . _ -, at most 70 characters including -Part-1-of-3 and .zip; accents simplified, other characters turned into hyphens; a Windows device name gets -files (CON.v2 → CON-files.v2.zip). Custom: your product name with Windows-refused characters replaced, e.g. Spring Bundle - Part 1 of 3.zip.
File names insideWindows rules from Microsoft’s documentation: no < > : " \ | ? * or control characters, no device names CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1–9, LPT1–9 (any case, also with an extension), no trailing space or period, at most 255 characters per name, no names that differ only in upper/lower case. Paths longer than 259 characters after extraction get a warning.

10Settings

Settings sit in step 2. After you choose files they fold into a one-line summary; click Change to open them. The review updates as you edit. While DraupnirFlow reads files or builds ZIP files, the settings are locked, so the plan, the downloads and the report always describe the same ZIP files.

SettingWhat it does
Product nameUsed for the ZIP file names. It is filled in from the folder or ZIP name.
Shop limitsEtsy digital listing (5 × 20,000,000 bytes) or Custom limits with your own maximum size and number of ZIP files.
Typical buyer download folderUsed to estimate the full path when a buyer uses Windows “Extract All”. A longer folder makes the estimate stricter.
Add “How to open these files.txt”Adds short unzip steps for Windows, Mac, iPhone/iPad and Android to every ZIP. Edit the text under Edit the “How to open these files” text, or switch it off.
Use ASCII-only file namesReplaces accented letters with plain ones (é → e) and other non-English characters with _. Safest for very old unzip tools, but it changes the names buyers see.
Include hidden filesPacks files whose names start with “.”. Off by default, because they are usually private or system files.
Name encoding for old ZIPsShown in step 1 when you check an existing ZIP; see section 8.

11Findings reference

CheckStatusMeaning and action
System file left outFixed.DS_Store, __MACOSX, ._ files, Thumbs.db, desktop.ini, Office ~$ and LibreOffice lock files are not packed.
Hidden fileFixed or WarningLeft out by default; a warning when you choose to include hidden files.
Character not allowed on WindowsFixed|, :, \, * become - (Notes: 2027 → Notes - 2027); < → (; > → ); " → '; ? and control characters are removed.
Name reserved by WindowsFixedCON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1–9, LPT1–9 get _ added, e.g. CON_.pdf.
Space or period at the endFixedRemoved; Windows cannot keep them.
Mac-style accented lettersFixedDecomposed accents (common on Macs) are converted to the standard composed form.
Names clash on Windows/MacFixedNames that differ only in upper/lower case get (2), shortened if needed to stay within 255 characters; such folders are merged. A top-level file or folder called How to open these files.txt is renamed when the unzip guide is added.
Name too longFixedNames over 255 characters are shortened, keeping the extension.
Non-English charactersWarningStored with the UTF-8 flag. Turn on ASCII-only names if your buyers use very old tools.
Path may be too long on WindowsWarningThe estimated extracted path exceeds 259 characters. Shorten folder or file names.
Archive inside the ZIPWarningPhone users often cannot open a ZIP inside a ZIP, and its contents are not checked. Consider delivering its files directly.
Empty fileWarningA 0-byte file, often a failed export.
Too many ZIP files, File too large for one ZIP, Nothing to packageBlockingSee section 7.
Etsy file-name ruleNoteThe ZIP name was adjusted to Etsy’s published rule (see section 3).
Names stored without UTF-8 flagFixed or WarningExisting ZIP only. Fixed when the name is valid UTF-8 or uses the encoding you chose; a warning when DraupnirFlow had to guess DOS 437.
Password-protected entry, Unsupported compression, Damaged entry, ZIP64 archive, Split archive volume, Not a readable ZIP, Too largeBlockingExisting ZIP only. Rebuild from your original files.
Unsafe path left out, Symbolic link left outWarningExisting ZIP only. Not repacked and counted as left out; add the real files again if buyers need them.
Two different names for one entryWarningExisting ZIP only. The entry’s local header names it differently from the ZIP directory, so some unzip tools would show another name. DraupnirFlow uses the directory name; check it.

12Troubleshooting

The buttons do nothing.
Extract the whole DraupnirFlow-1.0.1.zip again and open DraupnirFlow.html from the extracted folder, with the app folder next to it. Then the start page shows Choose what buyers will download and the buttons open a file chooser.
Build ZIP files is disabled.
Click the Blocking filter, fix the cause it names (section 7), then choose the folder again. The button is enabled once the banner is no longer red.
Download all saved only one file.
Chrome may block several downloads from one page. Allow them when Chrome asks, or click each Download button. A row says Download started after you click it; Chrome’s download list shows which files actually arrived.
Names from an old ZIP look garbled.
Choose another Name encoding for old ZIPs in step 1 (section 8). The findings update with the new reading.
Will my ZIP open on every device, and will Etsy accept it?
DraupnirFlow follows Microsoft’s file-naming rules, the ZIP specification and Etsy’s published limits, and its output was verified with independent ZIP readers on Linux. It was not tested on Windows, macOS, iPhone or Android unzip apps, and nothing was uploaded to Etsy. Open your files once yourself before publishing.
Can I use it for Gumroad, Payhip or my own website?
Yes — choose Custom limits and enter that shop’s limits. DraupnirFlow knows only Etsy’s published limits.
Asking for help
Say which version you use (DraupnirFlow 1.0.1), your operating system and browser, the step number, the exact message, and whether the practice folder works. Do not send private customer files, passwords, order or recovery codes; a small fictional example is enough.

13Privacy, uninstall and limitations

Privacy

  • Everything happens in your browser tab. The page makes no network requests (its security policy blocks them), has no accounts or analytics, and stores nothing. Closing or reloading the tab discards everything.
  • Hidden files (names starting with “.”) are left out unless you include them.
  • Downloads are saved by your browser in its usual download folder.

Uninstall

Delete the DraupnirFlow folder. It stores nothing elsewhere; the ZIP files and reports you saved stay where your browser put them.

Limitations

  • Tested in desktop Google Chrome 152 on Linux only. Windows, macOS, phones, Edge, Firefox and Safari have not been tested. The page fits narrow windows, but processing on phones was not tested.
  • No upload to Etsy or any shop, no shop connection, and no guarantee that a marketplace accepts a file or that every unzip app opens it.
  • File contents (PDF pages, images, licences, personal data) are not inspected, and archives inside your product are not opened.
  • The path-length warning is an estimate based on the buyer folder you set; actual limits depend on Windows settings.
  • A guessed encoding for an old ZIP can be wrong; check names flagged as warnings.
