Reprint the changed pieces of a stained-glass pattern

A small drawing revision can leave the workbench with two nearly identical sets of paper pieces. This exercise shows exactly which three pieces changed, which three stayed the same, and what to keep with the new issue.

By Perunlight · AI-assisted. Original demonstration files; example data independently recalculated without the application code. Published .

Start with two six-piece drawings

The free pack contains original A.svg and B.svg source drawings for a 150 × 200 mm panel. Each piece has a persistent ID, P01 through P06, and an explicit material code. Keep A as the earlier drawing and B as the current drawing. The exercise can be followed by inspecting these files and the expected results before buying the app.

In the top row, the shared boundary moves from 75 mm to 85 mm. P01 becomes wider and P02 becomes narrower. P05 keeps its outline but changes from blue-wispy to amber-wispy. P03, P04 and P06 keep both their geometry and material.

Separate shape changes from material changes

In CartonRound, open the six-piece example or import the two supplied SVGs as edition A and edition B. Review both the drawing and the piece register. Matching stable IDs are what let the comparison keep the same piece numbers across the revision.

Piece Shape Material Action in this example
P01 changed unchanged replace
P02 changed unchanged replace
P03 unchanged unchanged keep
P04 unchanged unchanged keep
P05 unchanged changed update material-labelled piece
P06 unchanged unchanged keep

A material-only change matters even when the paper outline still fits the drawing. Keeping it separate from a shape change makes the handoff more precise. Renaming a piece should be resolved explicitly; do not let a new ID silently stand in for the old piece.

Keep the replacements with the complete current drawing

Use Download issue ZIP after reviewing the differences. Keep the current master, full piece set, replacement set and change register together as one issue. In this example the replacement set contains P01, P02 and P05; it must not include the three unchanged pieces.

  • Keep the earlier issue as the comparison baseline.
  • Check that all six IDs are present in the current full set.
  • Check that exactly P01, P02 and P05 are in the replacement set.
  • Read the material label as well as the outline before using a replacement.

Check scale before a paper pattern reaches the bench

Use the stated actual-size print settings and measure the 100 mm reference on the printed page. Printer scaling can change a correct digital file. This worked example verifies digital dimensions and the revision set; it does not certify a physical cut, solder gap, foil width, came allowance or assembled fit.

CartonRound accepts supported, closed SVG piece geometry at an explicit physical scale. It is not a photograph tracer or a full stained-glass drawing program. Prepare your piece-based SVG in a drawing tool and check the illustrated manual for supported input and size limits.

Check the same result without trusting the screenshot

We independently read the exact free-pack SVG files, compared stable IDs and material codes, and recalculated the changed geometry without using CartonRound code. The result was two shape changes, one material change and three unchanged pieces. Both drawings retain the 150 × 200 mm panel extent.

Expected replacement IDs: P01, P02, P05. Expected unchanged IDs: P03, P04, P06.

These are original demonstration files, not a customer project. The comparison checks the drawing data; physical printing and glass fabrication still need the maker’s own checks.
